The hickory wood for each piece is carefully chosen for strength, grain, and beauty. The bokken are made from 4/4 (1 inch thick) Hickory. Each is carefully finished with gel polyurethane and then hand-tested to ensure ruggedness, correct weight, and proper balance.
The bokken can be used as training tools in martial-arts and will easily hold up to the stresses of strenuous drills and exercises or contact practice. Hickory Arms uses polyurethane as a finish because it provides a durable finish that is easy to maintain. Hickory is well suited for the rigors of full contact. It is strong, tough, and somewhat flexible allowing it to bend when struck rather than splinter. Hickory wood is specifically chosen for strength of grain.
The bokken is handmade by a skilled craftsman, properly balanced, and can be a specifically customized for your required dimensions.
